V's Fashion Odyssey

My name is Vanessa Mulangala, I'm originally from Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo). I have lived in Brussels, Athens, Johannesburg, Lausanne, London and Nairobi. I spent my earliest years playing dress-up in my mother's closet and designer shop - the first of its kind - in Kinshasa.
My career in media started as a radio presenter/producer at the BBC Worldservice for over 5 years. In 2008, I decided to focus on fashion. I worked as a freelance TV journalist for Voxafrica TV. Currently I'm a content provider for Fashion One TV. I'm based in Nairobi but the most likely place to bump into me is the airport ;)
From Bamako to london with stopovers in nairobi, this is my fashion odyssey.

2012 has been the year of discovery for me. I took  a gamble and followed my friend Marlene’s advice and decided to spend some time discovering East Africa. It was such a contrast in comparison to the other African countries I had visited in the past. A different style and a different attitude. The people are reserved… sometimes very quiet. But the colours! The colours are so vibrant! From the turquoise of the indian ocean to red, the signature Masai colour. But more on that later…

So London Fashion Week is upon us so I decided to check out The International Fashion Showcase. This festival is a platform for emerging designers and this year, Tanzania was representing with the likes of Chichia London, Heart 365 and Anna Luks… A taste of Swahili Flavour
